About the event
KHORIKOS is pleased to present a new work by Norway-based composer Andrew Smith, a set of O Antiphons written for KHORIKOS. KHORIKOS performed Andrew Smith’s first piece in the set, “Veni O Oriens,” as part of the 3rd ORTUS International New Music Competition in 2017, in which it was a winning composition. This program centers variations on themes, written by other composers new and old, including Arvo Pärt and Alfred Schnittke. Also featured is J.S. Bach's funeral motet, "Komm, Jesu, Komm," with David Karp on synth continuo.
This program is a part of KHORIKOS’ Old New, Uptown Downtown series, sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, which aims to bring KHORIKOS’ unique blend of Early and New music to the communities of both uptown and downtown Manhattan, and to forge connections between these neighborhoods and cultural contexts through music. If you can't make this one, join us on night one instead on Saturday, December 13th, uptown at Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
Tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are $20 suggested donation.
